 The Handheld Exhibition Guide System is a complete multi-tier system to be used by an Exhibition Center for exhibition information dissemination to visitors. It allows for preparing the content for multiple exhibitions, transferring to a variety of end-user handheld and mobile devices and installing and viewing the content on the devices.
The benefit of the system is that it is platform-independent. The guide can be deployed to multiple device types running different operating systems, such as PalmOS, SymbianOS & PocketPC. The system is split into multiple modules for effective management, packaging, installation and viewing of the exhibition content and uses a mixture of technologies and components to create a highly integrated and user-friendly system for provisioning of mobile information to various mobile devices. The three main components of the Exhibition Guide are: The Data Management and Packaging Server System is used for managing the exhibition content and packaging it for deployment to all end-user devices. An easy-to-use interface along with multiple security levels for administrators and data managers, provides an enhanced environment for rapid development & packaging of Exhibition Guide. The Deployment Engine is a simple module used at the Exhibition Floor level for distributing the guide to visitor devices. The engine can be installed at one or more locations and is always connected to the server for latest updated exhibition information. It uses multiple transfer modes to communicate with visitor devices, including Bluetooth & IR. The viewer application provides graphical access to the exhibition data on the visitor's device of choice. As the application is created using open standards of Java & J2ME, it can be used on one of several devices supporting J2ME and MIDP 1.0. The complete system is extremely flexible and can manage data for multiple exhibitions and venues. It is based on open standards and thus can provide quick and effective access to value-added information at a very low cost.
